Bump
Terms of service
Last updated
The short version
- You need to be 16 or over to use Bump.
- Be decent. No harassment, hate, threats, scams or anything illegal. We have zero tolerance for abuse and will remove it.
- You own what you post. You let us show it to the people you share it with.
- Plans and meetups are arranged between you and other people. Bump doesn't run them and isn't responsible for what happens at them.
- Bump doesn't handle money. Splits are a record of who owes what, and paying up is between you.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Callum Greig, an individual developer based in the UK who runs Bump while it's in testing ("Bump", "we", "us"). Before Bump's public launch, it will move to a UK limited company, which will take over these terms. We'll tell you when that happens. They cover the Bump app on iPhone and Android, including test versions through TestFlight, Google Play testing and our Android download, and our website at bump.events.
By creating an account or using Bump, you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we use your data. If you don't agree, please don't use Bump.
2. Who can use Bump
- You must be 16 or over.
- You must be able to make a binding agreement with us, and not be barred from using Bump under the law or by an earlier ban from us.
- One person, one account. Don't pretend to be someone else or create accounts for other people.
3. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email or phone. Keep your email and phone secure, because anyone who can read your codes can sign in as you.
- Keep your profile accurate, and use your real name or a name your friends know you by.
- You're responsible for what happens on your account. If you think someone else has got in, tell us straight away at admin@bump.events.
4. Test versions
While Bump is in beta, including on TestFlight and Google Play testing, features may change, break or be removed, and the app may be unavailable at times. We'll try to keep your data safe through updates, but please don't rely on a test version for anything critical. We'd love to hear your feedback, and we may use it to improve Bump without owing you anything for it.
5. What you post
- It's yours. You keep ownership of the messages, photos, plans and anything else you post ("your content").
- You give us permission to use it to run Bump. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and display your content, only so we can provide Bump to you and the people you share with, keep Bump safe and improve it. This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies that others have already received or that we must keep by law.
- You're responsible for it. Only post content you have the right to share. That includes photos of other people: get their OK first.
- We don't check content before it's posted, but we may remove anything that breaks these terms.
6. Community rules
Bump is for making real plans with real people. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You must not use Bump to:
- harass, bully, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone;
- post hate speech, or attack people for who they are, including their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age;
- post sexual content involving anyone under 18, or any sexual content without the consent of the people in it;
- post violent, graphic or sexually explicit content, or encourage self-harm;
- share someone's personal details, including anything they gave you through a details request, without their permission;
- scam, defraud or mislead people, including asking for money under false pretences or giving false bank details in a split;
- organise or promote anything illegal, including the sale of drugs, weapons or other illegal goods;
- impersonate someone or misrepresent who you are;
- send spam, chain messages or unsolicited advertising;
- break the law, or infringe anyone's copyright, trade mark or other rights;
- hack, overload or interfere with Bump, access it with bots or scrapers, or try to get round our security or anyone's block.
Reporting and blocking. You can report a person, message, event, club or conversation, and block anyone, from inside the app. We review reports and aim to act on them within 24 hours: we'll remove content that breaks these rules and remove anyone who posted it. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 first.
7. Plans, events and meeting people
Bump helps you arrange things with other people. It's a tool, not an event organiser.
- Plans are arranged between users. Whoever creates a plan or event is responsible for it, including that it's safe and legal, and that they have any tickets, bookings, permissions or licences it needs.
- We don't vet users, plans or venues. We don't check who people are, and we can't promise that a plan will go ahead, that people will turn up, or that information in a plan is accurate.
- Take care. When meeting people you don't know well, meet somewhere public, tell a friend where you'll be, and trust your instincts. If you drink, please do so responsibly.
- Some events come from other sites. Bump may show public events listed by ticketing and event sites such as Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, Eventbrite and Skiddle. Their organisers and ticket sellers are responsible for those events, and any tickets you buy are sold under their terms, not ours.
- Going to a plan or event is your own choice and at your own risk. As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for anything that happens at or because of a plan, or for how other users behave, on or off Bump.
8. Clubs
People who create or run a club (club admins) decide who can join and what happens in it. Admins must follow these terms and make sure their club does too. We may remove a club, or an admin's powers, if it breaks these terms.
9. Splits and money
- Bump doesn't process payments. Splits help you keep track of who owes what. We never hold, send or receive money for you, and we aren't a bank or payment service.
- You settle up yourselves, by bank transfer or however you agree. Marking a split as settled is only a record.
- Check before you pay. Make sure bank details are right and come from the person you expect. If something seems off, confirm with them another way first.
- Splits are only as accurate as what people enter. We're not responsible for mistakes in a split, for debts between users, or for money paid to the wrong account.
10. Sharing personal details
Details requests let people ask for a phone number, address, email or bank details inside a chat. Only share details with people you trust. If someone shares their details with you, use them only for the reason they were shared, keep them private, and delete them if they ask.
11. Paid features
Bump is free to use today. If we introduce paid features, such as a subscription, we'll tell you the price and what you get before you pay. Purchases in the app are made through Apple's App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android, and are covered by their terms, including their refund policies. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
12. Our app
- Bump, including its design, name, logo and software, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms.
- You must not copy, modify, sell, reverse engineer or build a competing product from the app, except where the law allows you to.
- Bump uses services from other companies, such as maps from Mapbox and your phone's own calendar. Their terms may also apply when you use those features.
- We're always working on Bump, so we may change, add or remove features. If we make a change that significantly affects you, we'll try to tell you first.
13. Leaving, suspension and termination
- You can leave any time by deleting your account. See how to delete your account.
- We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we must by law, or if your account puts other people or Bump at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond. For serious abuse we may act straight away.
- We may stop offering Bump altogether. If we do, we'll give you reasonable notice and a chance to download your data.
- Sections 5, 7, 9, 14, 15 and 17 continue to apply after your account ends.
14. Our responsibility to you
- Your legal rights come first. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. It doesn't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
- We provide Bump with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, Bump is provided "as is", and we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
- We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, for business losses (Bump is for personal use), or for anything caused by other users, including what happens at plans and money owed between users.
- As far as the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or [£100].
15. Apple and Google
If you downloaded Bump from Apple's App Store or TestFlight:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund any purchase price. Apart from that, Apple has no warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple isn't responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app doesn't meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If anyone claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, will handle it.
- You confirm you're not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and you're not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
- Your use of the app must also follow the App Store's Usage Rules.
If you downloaded Bump from Google Play, or installed our Android app another way:
- These terms are between you and us, not Google. We, not Google, are responsible for the app, its content and any support for it.
- If you got Bump from Google Play, Google Play's Terms of Service also apply to your download and to any purchases made through Google Play.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless it has to happen sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don't agree with the new terms, you can delete your account before they apply.
17. The law and disputes
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
- If you have a problem, please contact us first and we'll try to sort it out.
- Any dispute can be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another person or company, including the limited company Bump will move to before launch, or if Bump changes hands. We'll make sure your rights aren't reduced. You can't transfer your account or these terms to anyone else.
